Læringsløypa

This was a project I did during the spring 2021 as a final delivery for the subject "Design 6 - Industrial Project". In this subject we could pick from many different projects in collaboration with external stakeholders and I chose to work with The Department of Language and Literature at NTNU.

The Department of Language and Literature teaches Norwegian to exchange students, professors and others that have an affiliation with NTNU. The department wanted to help these students be more integrated into the society and together we decided to create a game that would help them get to know Trondheim better. The goal of the game is that the player learns about Trondheim's history and culture, knows the city better and improves their Norwegian abilities. I made the game so the language is not the challenging part and did not use typical tasks from language games like grammar exercises. This also makes the game enjoyable for both Norwegians and people with intermediate Norwegian skills.

The game takes place in Midtbyen in Trondheim and the player must walk around the city to complete the game. At each location the player must solve a series of tasks to unlock the next location. All the locations are places of historical or cultural significance and the player will "meet" a mix of fictional and historical characters. The genre of the game is a mix of puzzle and adventure and it is heavily influenced by "Escape Room". During play testing some of the players even compared it to an "Escape Room" as well!

I developed the concept of the game, designed the mobile application, and created a working prototype with Protopie. The department was very happy with the end-result and they hired a developer to make the project become a reality. The app was developed during the summer of 2021 and is now available to download in Google Play and App Store.
